Apple Patents, Speakers and the iPhone

Like many other large companies, Apple files a lot of patents. Many of the innovations in these patents do not make it into products. That said, they provide a lens into where the market is going, and they are sometimes an intesting read. This one is not an expecition.

What is special about this patent is buried in the language and photos. I read this headline early today on Digital Trends: Forget the fold - the next iPhone cold use its entire screen as a speaker. The included this photo form the patient application:

That certainly looks like a smartphone. The description, and the claims seem broader, and dealing with speaker design, but this is cool. We will have to see if what comes of this. It is exciting.
